Kristin Dibeh,
Certified Birth Doula
“For my birthing experience, I wanted to feel both empowered and supported. Kristin gave me both. If you want someone with equal parts experience, knowledge, empathy, and advocacy, Kristin is your person. I can say wholeheartedly that my birthing experience wouldn’t have been the same without her by my side. She’s calming when you need to take that extra breath; she normalizes when you feel unsteady; she positively reframes when your negative thoughts creep in; and she pushes you when you need it most. Both my partner and I felt more capable with Kristin by our sides throughout my pregnancy, the birth of my daughter, and postpartum journeys.”
The role of a doula is a fluid and flowing partnership to meet the needs of a family throughout the perinatal period. Following our interview, ideally in-person with you and your birth partner(s), we will sign a contract, and then schedule (at least) two prenatal planning meetings. It is essential for you to feel very comfortable with me, and that we have enough time to build that connection and for me to earn your trust. Meetings typically take place at your home around week 34 or 35, and a second around week 37 or 38.
Outside of those meetings, I am available to you during waking hours for phone calls or texts to address joys, concerns, questions, and to fill me in on your meetings with your care providers. I can be a resource for you in determining questions you may wish to ask, specific requests for how you can best be supported by your team, and recommendations for additional practices, services, and providers that may add to your comfort and care during pregnancy.
Following our meetings, we will check in as needed, as late pregnancy/pre/early labor signs begin to make themselves known. Once labor or induction begins, we will be in contact throughout your early labor. I will provide suggestions for movements and strategies to manage any early discomforts while encouraging you to rest, hydrate, and nourish your body so that you have all the resources your body needs to move efficiently into active labor.
We will decide together when it is appropriate for me to join you, normally at your home, to labor through as much of active labor as we can before moving to your intended birth location. Unless there are specific concerns, I try to land at your birthing center when your labor signs are consistent with being directly admitted (<5cm) and not sent home or laboring uncomfortably in triage for extended periods of time.
Once admitted, I stay with you until your baby is born, including any transfers or escalations in care, and throughout the golden hour(s), supporting as needed.
Also included in the Doula Package are 2 postpartum visits to check in on you and your new family in the weeks following your birth, 1 on approximately day 4-5, and another at around 4-6 weeks.
